Importing from Trading 212
Trading 212 has no automatic connection to GetGild, so you bring your data in with a CSV file. You export your transaction history from Trading 212, then upload it to the matching account in GetGild.
What you export depends on whether this is your first upload or an update, so follow the section that applies to you.
Before you start
Section titled âBefore you startâAdd the account in GetGild first. Follow Connecting an Investment account and choose Trading212 as the provider. This matters: GetGild uses the provider to recognise the Trading 212 file layout.
If you hold more than one account with Trading 212, such as an Invest account and an ISA, add each as its own account in GetGild and upload that accountâs transactions to it.
First upload: bring in your full history
Section titled âFirst upload: bring in your full historyâYour first upload needs the complete transaction history, from the day you opened the account. GetGild builds your holdings and cash balance from the transactions themselves. If earlier purchases are missing, later sales canât be matched to them, and the account wonât reconcile with what you see in Trading 212.
Trading 212 exports up to 12 months at a time. If your history is longer, youâll download a separate CSV for each 12-month period and upload them all.
- Open the Trading 212 app. CSV export is available in the app.
- Select the menu (three lines) at the bottom right and choose the account you want to export (for example ISA).
- Select History, then the All tab to include every transaction type.
- Select the download arrow at the top right and choose a date range of up to 12 months.
- Save the CSV on your device. If your history is longer than 12 months, repeat steps 4 and 5 for each period, with no gaps between them.
- In GetGild, open the account from the Accounts page, select Upload CSV and choose a file. Repeat for each CSV, oldest first.
Ongoing uploads: add whatâs new
Section titled âOngoing uploads: add whatâs newâOnce your full history is in, you only need to bring in what has happened since. Trading 212 doesnât send new transactions to GetGild automatically, so repeat this whenever you want to update.
- Open the Trading 212 app.
- Select the menu (three lines) at the bottom right and choose the same account you exported before.
- Select History, then the All tab to include every transaction type.
- Select the download arrow at the top right and set the start date a few days before your last upload.
- Save the CSV on your device.
- In GetGild, open the account from the Accounts page, select Upload CSV and choose the file.
Starting a few days early is deliberate. Transactions GetGild has already imported are recognised and skipped, so overlapping dates are safe, but a gap would leave transactions missing. Uploading the exact same file twice is rejected as a duplicate.
Good to know
Section titled âGood to knowâUpload the file exactly as Trading 212 gives it to you. Opening it in Excel and saving it again can change the date format, and rows with a date GetGild canât read are dropped.
What GetGild imports
- Buys and sells. These build your holdings. A sale is matched against your earlier purchases, including ones from a previous upload.
- Cash movements. Dividends, interest, deposits and withdrawals in the export come in as cash.
If your file contains something GetGild doesnât support yet. Some Trading 212 transaction types, such as spin-offs, currency conversions or card activity, arenât supported yet. If a file contains one, GetGild holds the whole file instead of importing part of it, so your balances never end up half updated. Contact support with the account name and weâll look into it.
If part of your file is held back. If GetGild doesnât recognise a share or fund in the file, the upload is held under Pending Imports on the accountâs Holdings page while the instrument is identified. Nothing from that file is imported until every line can be matched. Once the instrument is identified, the import completes on its own.
If something else doesnât import as you expect, contact support with the account name and weâll look into it.
