Importing from Interactive Investor

Interactive Investor (ii) has no automatic connection to GetGild, so you bring your data in with a CSV file. You export your transaction history from ii, then upload it to the matching account in GetGild.

What you export depends on whether this is your first upload or an update, so follow the section that applies to you.

Add the account in GetGild first. Follow Connecting an Investment account and choose Interactive Investor as the provider. This matters: GetGild uses the provider to recognise ii’s file layout.

If you hold more than one account with ii, such as an ISA and a SIPP, add each as its own account in GetGild and upload that account’s transactions to it.

Your first upload needs the complete transaction history, from the day you opened the account. GetGild builds your holdings and cash balance from the transactions themselves. If earlier purchases are missing, later sales can’t be matched to them, and the account won’t reconcile with what you see in ii.

  1. Log in to your Interactive Investor account.
  2. Select Portfolio at the top.
  3. Choose Transaction history from the dropdown.
  4. Set the date range to cover everything from when you opened the account to today.
  5. Select the download icon on the right and choose CSV.
  6. In GetGild, open the account from the Accounts page, select Upload CSV and choose the file.

Once your full history is in, you only need to bring in what has happened since. ii doesn’t send new transactions to GetGild automatically, so repeat this whenever you want to update.

  1. In ii, go to Portfolio, then Transaction history.
  2. Set the date range to start a few days before your last upload and run to today.
  3. Select the download icon on the right and choose CSV.
  4. In GetGild, open the account, select Upload CSV and choose the new file.

Starting a few days early is deliberate. Transactions GetGild has already imported are recognised and skipped, so overlapping dates are safe, but a gap would leave transactions missing. Uploading the exact same file twice is rejected as a duplicate.

Upload the file exactly as ii gives it to you. Opening it in Excel and saving it again can change the date format, and rows with a date GetGild can’t read are dropped.

What GetGild imports

  • Buys and sells. These build your holdings. A sale is matched against your earlier purchases, including ones from a previous upload.
  • Cash movements. Interest, dividends, deposits and similar rows in the export come in as cash.

If part of your file is held back. If GetGild doesn’t recognise a share or fund in the file, the upload is held under Pending Imports on the account’s Holdings page while the instrument is identified. Nothing from that file is imported until every line can be matched. Once the instrument is identified, the import completes on its own.

If something doesn’t import as you expect, contact support with the account name and we’ll look into it.
